Poor Nelson and Carson
There is an old story about two famous train robbers, Nelson and Carson. The wanted poster said that if they were captured there would be a substantial reward.
The sheriff in town thought it would be funny to turn their reward poster into a cyrpto-algorithm. The whole town started working on the problem, even Nelson and Carson.
Nelson visited the Sheriff's office to get a clue, and before he arrested them both he told Carson that N = 5.
While they were in prison, the bailiff helped them solve the puzzle.
